Cultural Landscape Museum in the Wermsdorf Forest
The Cultural Landscape Museum is located in the western Wermsdorf Forest around the area of the “Kirchenteich”, the “Drei-Teichen” and the “Doktorteich”.
The open-air museum and the old excavation sites are divided into the following main areas:
1. The Bronze Age burial ground south of the Doktorteich
2. The ruins of a medieval tower hill castle / fortification with farmyard at the Drei Teichen
3. The “Desert Village Nennewitz” at the Church Pond
4. Floor plan of a church with cemetery at the church pond
5. Pitch boiling and charcoal burning at the Drei Teichen
Since 1990, the Friedrich Gustav Klemm Society for Cultural History and Open-Air Museums has been processing the finds, relics and archaeological remains from over 3000 years of human settlement and making them visible in a landscape museum. Sophisticated display boards invite visitors on a 3.200-year journey through the past. There is also a forest classroom available in the adjacent car park and visitors can marvel at the excavation sites, burial grounds and relics on various paths (from around 2 to 10 km). Guided tours are available by appointment.
