The village church, which is over 700 years old, has an impressive history and houses important sacred relics from different eras. These include a large number of epitaphs, a winged altar that is around 400 years old and a picture Bible ceiling that is unique in Central Germany (Biblia pauperum 1691). The Löbnitz church was first mentioned in 1183 as a Romanesque three-aisled stone basilica. The altar was built in 1629 by Georg Eckhard from Freiberg and restored between 1973 and 1980 by W. Pitzschler and P. Dietrich from Crimmitzschau.
The first reconstruction of the church began in 1688 when it was converted into a hall church. Extensive renovations took place in 1930 and 1972. Since 2012, the culturally and historically valuable picture ceiling has been shining in new splendor. It is the largest Renaissance wooden coffered ceiling in Central Germany with picture depictions.
The interior of the church is richly furnished: patron's box with column capital from 1586, altar from 1629, baptismal font from 1603, pulpit from the 18th century, numerous epitaphs, mostly for members of the Schönfeldt family, who lived in Löbnitz for 567 years. Last Supper relief (1932) by the sculptor Otto Richter from Löbnitz.

The Löbnitz church is home to the largest and most extensive ceiling painting in Germany, designed in 1691 by the Delitzsch painter Christian Schilling. It is made up of 250 individual panels. 82 panels are decorated with floral motifs and 168 biblical images (36 from the Old Testament and 78 from the New Testament). Individuals such as the 16 written prophets, the 12 apostles and 4 evangelists as well as Moses, Jesus, Luther and Melanchthon are also depicted in the panels. The final panel is made up of 18 images depicting angels.

The Löbnitz church is a stop on the Luther Trail Saxony.
