During the Second World War, thousands of deserters, opponents of the war and members of the resistance from all over Europe were imprisoned in Torgau. During the Second World War, Torgau was the centre of the Nazi military justice system. The exhibition "Courage and Powerlessness" tells of personal fates - and of the abuse of the justice system to enforce the dictatorship. After 1945, there were two Soviet special camps and a GDR prison with a youth prison in Torgau.
