The Federal Administrative Court is the highest authority for complaints by citizens against measures taken by the public administration in the Federal Republic of Germany.
The building of the former Reich Court was built between 1888 and 1895 based on designs by Peter Dybwad and Ludwig Hoffmann and is one of the monumental buildings of the Wilhelminian Empire characterized by a dome. The building owes its noble effect to the application of classical architectural principles while at the same time limiting the sculptural details, with the central dome above the hall being crowned by the figure of Truth. Behind the facade of the former Reich Court, the high treason trial against Karl Liebknecht took place in 1907 and the so-called "Reichstag fire trial" in 1933, in which the Bulgarian communist Georgi Dimitroff exposed the Nazi regime before the eyes of the public. The Federal Administrative Court has been based in Leipzig since 2002. As the highest authority in the three-tier administrative jurisdiction of the Federal Republic, it is responsible for public law disputes. In 2001, the Pleißemühlgraben was opened in front of the building, the bank of which is visually impressively accompanied by illuminated steles at night.
