The gatehouse is an architectural gem that is over 300 years old and is one of the few remaining baroque buildings in Leipzig. The Tin Figure Museum in the Dölitz Gatehouse is one of the largest museums of its kind in Europe. On three floors, artistically designed individual figures and tin figure dioramas show "history in miniature". In total, over 100.000 tin figures are waiting to be discovered.
The focus of the exhibition is the Napoleonic era with the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig in 1813. The highlight of the gatehouse is the approximately 25 m² large historical diorama of the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig. It also shows how the cityscape of Leipzig has changed over the centuries! The diverse history of Dölitz - a place that Goethe liked to visit during his time as a student in Leipzig - invites you to discover! In addition, there are numerous dioramas on antiquity (e.g. Babylon), the Middle Ages and the events of the 18th century to marvel at. One exhibition room focuses on the history and production of the tin figure. It shows everything worth knowing about the tin figure - from the idea and drawing, to the engraving, to the casting, painting and diorama construction.
Constantly changing special exhibitions and a museum shop, where you can buy tin figures as well as all sorts of items related to the themes of tin figures, the Battle of the Nations and Napoleon, as well as Leipzig souvenirs, round off the overall picture of the exhibition.
