inner courtyard of the university (Grimmaische Straße)
The long, spatial center of the campus extends into the inner courtyard of the University of Leipzig. The so-called Leibniz Forum was named after Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, one of the university's most famous alumni. The monument by the sculptor Ernst Julius Hähnel forms an interesting contrast to the ultra-modern rear of the Paulinum and is reminiscent of the German philosopher.
The inner courtyard is surrounded by the New Augusteum and Paulinum as well as the institute, seminar and lecture hall buildings. Since 2009, the new building of the University of Leipzig has also had its own row of shops. The courtyard is only partially/temporarily accessible.
