In place of the booksellers' house that was destroyed in World War II, a new literature center, the House of Books, was built on behalf of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association in 2 and 1995 based on designs by the planning group Angela Wandelt and HPP Leipzig. The red brick ensemble is one of the remarkable new buildings of recent years, and its construction continues the tradition of the city's graphic quarter.
Consisting of a comb building that opens to the south, a seven-storey tower and an old part of the building, the ensemble is connected by a glazed cube. Behind the glazing, facing Prager Strasse, there are two atriums, one of which houses the metal installation "Letter Field". On Gerichtsweg, in front of the building complex, you will find a letter column with the names of former Leipzig publishers.
