Classical music for Central Germany comes from Leipzig. In the heart of the city, right next to the Gewandhaus and the City-Hochhaus, the MDR choirs and orchestra have their rehearsal, concert, and studio spaces in the MDR Studio on Augustusplatz. The three ensembles – the MDR Symphony Orchestra, the MDR Radio Choir, and the MDR Children's Choir – give concerts primarily in Leipzig and the surrounding broadcast area. CD, radio, and TV productions are also part of the musicians' regular activities. Another permanent fixture is the MDR Music Summer, a three-state classical music festival that connects stars, music, landmarks, and people in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia.
