Memorial Museum in the "Round Corner"

museum/collection

The museum in the "Round Corner" is a partner of the Leipzig Card / Leipzig Regio Card.
The advantages are described under "Good to know/Price information".

The memorial was formerly the headquarters of the State Security Service (Stasi). Visitors to the museum experience the working atmosphere in the district administration at that time.

In the original rooms of the former district administration for state security in Leipzig, the memorial provides information about the Stasi as a guarantor of the SED dictatorship and about its overcoming through the Peaceful Revolution. The exhibition "Stasi - Power and Banality" shows numerous, partly unique exhibits on the history, structure and working methods of the GDR secret service, including a prison cell. The exhibition "Leipzig on the way to the Peaceful Revolution" reports on the events in autumn 89 that brought down the communist dictatorship in the GDR. Since 2012, the memorial has been part of the European cultural heritage "Iron Curtain".

The App “Leipzig '89” Furthermore, it offers additional fascinating insights and leads to 20 stele sites in Leipzig's city center. These locations were the sites of events that contributed to the fall of the SED dictatorship. Original photos, documents, and contemporary film footage complement the tour and bring the Peaceful Revolution to life.
