The town of Mügeln with its 28 districts is located in the southernmost part of the North Saxony district. There is a lot to discover in the 54 square kilometers of the former bishop's seat of the diocese of Meissen. Embedded in the hilly landscape are huge plantations of the Saxon fruit country, which provide nature lovers with unforgettable impressions, especially when the trees are in blossom in spring. The former Marienthal monastery in Sornzig, built in 1241, is considered a cradle of Saxon fruit growing and can now be used for a wide variety of events.

It's not just those interested in technology who can follow in the footsteps of Saxony's narrow-gauge railway tradition. Whether it's a trip on the puffing "Wild Robert" from Oschatz through the gentle meadow landscape of the Döllnitz valley to Glossen or Kemmlitz, a visit to what was once Europe's largest narrow-gauge railway station in Mügeln or a quick visit to the Glossen Railway Adventure World with its narrow-gauge railway exhibition and narrow-gauge railway museum - anyone who visits Mügeln need not fear being bored.

It is worth visiting the local museum or geoportal, where guests can also learn interesting facts about the region's commercial development. The spectrum is wide, from the extraction of kaolin to the tradition of making stove tiles and the production of paint boxes.

A tour through the "Mügeln banking center" offers unusual views of the city and the charming landscape. They then learn, for example, that George Bähr, the builder of the Dresden Frauenkirche, is said to have provided the plans for the Schweta village church, or that St. Mary's in Altmügeln was once a pilgrimage church.

Anyone who wants to go on an adventure tour by bike or on foot on the well-signposted cycling and hiking routes can look forward to even more unique experiences. Pure natural idyll when looking at the March snowdrop meadows near Schweta, when taking a break at the Gaudlitzer Kranichau with a sea of willowherb or lily of the valley in spring, when hiking on the nature trail in Kemmlitz or through the forest near Seelitz.

Pure action, however, can be found on the motocross track on the site of one of Kemmlitz's former kaolin open-cast mines. If you need a break in the summer, you can take a day off to relax in the Mügeln public swimming pool.
