museum complex with tower Groitzsch
The Groitzsch town tower is what remains of the old Romanesque St. Aegidius Church. A fire in 1513 completely destroyed the church, except for the tower. The 23-meter-high tower was not repaired until 1714. It then continued to serve as an armory, a guard tower, a prison and a policeman's apartment. It was completely renovated between 1993 and 1995 and has since housed a local history exhibition from the Groitzsch Museum. You can climb the tower via 60 steps and enjoy the view over the town and the Elsteraue.
