Two Bronze Age burial mounds near Frauwalde are evidence of early settlement in the area. The State Office for Archaeology in Dresden dates them to around 1.400 to 900 BC. In the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Prehistory and Early History (as a geoportal of the Porphyrland Geopark), visitors are shown finds from the Neolithic period, the Bronze Age, the Iron Age, the Sorbian settlement period and the German re-settlement period. However, as archaeological finds show, the settlement history of the area even goes back to the Paleolithic period. From the glacial polishes discovered on the Kleiner Berg Hohburg, Saxon geologists developed their theory of Pleistocene inland glaciation around 1844.

Guided tours to the Bronze Age burial mound field and the rune stone at the Höllenfurt are offered.
