Museum "Wassermühle Höfgen"
In the historic center of the idyllic village of Höfgen near Grimma you will find the "water mill", a technical exhibition facility with a museum exhibition and the associated historic inn "Zur Wassermühle". The water mill was first mentioned in documents in 1721. It was used as a grain mill until 1954.
The mill's technology is driven by an overshot waterwheel, with the necessary water supplied from above via a channel. This mill drive is an invention of the late Middle Ages and has only been documented in Germany since the 14th century.
The mill has been open to the public as a museum since 1976. It provides a vivid insight into the functioning milling technology and the working and living conditions of the millers of that time. In four former living and utility rooms, visitors can see a miller's apartment furnished with historical furniture.
Please note: unfortunately there is no barrier-free access - with prior telephone arrangement with the museum staff, a ramp for wheelchairs can be installed on the ground floor.
