Annekatrin Döll makes long-lasting, high-quality, sustainable bags and accessories from fish leather in her Leipzig factory Rothöll. She was inspired to do this in 2009 by a stay in Iceland, where fish skin tanning is traditionally practiced. This gave rise to the idea of making extraordinary leather goods from the apparently worthless remains of the fishing industry, the skins (of non-endangered fish species). In her small studio in Plagwitz, the artisan has revived the rare craft of fine leatherwork and thus produces "luxury for everyday life". The design is classically elegant, with a certain twist, but also with well-thought-out functionality. Handbags, wallets, smartphone cases, belts and bow ties in different colors are created - pieces of jewelry that focus on the beauty of the material. The fish leather is elastic, robust, durable and has a special feel: the handle is reminiscent of silk and paper. In the interests of sustainability, great importance is attached to the use of vegetable - and therefore more environmentally friendly - tanning during production. Annekatrin Döll produces according to customer requirements and also offers a collection. The studio can be visited by appointment.
