The 136-step spiral staircase from 1668 leads halfway up past the oldest local history museum in Central Germany. The Renaissance town hall was built between 1559 and 1561 by Paul Widemann based on plans by the Leipzig building and mayor Hieronymus Lotter. From the tour of the tower you have a view of the picturesque old town, the St. Laurentius Church, the water tower and on the horizon the Leipzig skyline with the MDR high-rise and the Battle of the Nations Monument as well as the extensive floodplain landscapes of the White Elster and Schnauder. There is an unexpected amount of greenery all around, from the city park by the city wall to the Poetenweg and the König-Albert-Hain. In the tower keeper's room, where tower keeper Hermann Zetsche once served with his family of six until 1919, visitors have the opportunity to rest.
- a coin-operated toilet for visitors is available behind the town hall
