The charm of the past still prevails today in one of the oldest cinemas in the country. The UT Connewitz is an event venue with a special Leipzig charm. Located in the south of the city, the UT fits into the rough and alternative style of the Connewitz district. It is no longer just a place for film screenings, but also for concerts, readings, festivals and other events.
The UT is popular and sought after by scene-goers, culture lovers and music fans, and yet it has not bowed to the urge for progress, but has deliberately preserved the backdrop of the 100-year-old film palace. After the UT experienced its heyday in the GDR as a cinema and concert venue for the East German punk scene, the curtains closed temporarily after reunification. In 2001, a group of motivated culture lovers set about breathing new life into the UT.
