The tower was built in 1396 as part of the fortifications.
The width of the tower as part of the medieval city fortifications, it was built in 1396 and secured the eastern entrance to the old town. Directly adjacent to it was the Breite Tor, which served as an entrance and exit for locals and foreigners. Until the 16th century, the Breite Turm was alternately known as the Leipzig, Eilenburg, Hausmanns or High Tower. Until 1902, the tower served as the home and workplace of the city's tower guard, also known as the Hausmann or Türmer. It reaches a height of 46 meters and has 130 steps.

By public transport: From Leipzig main station take the S2 or RE 13 to Delitzsch station. From Delitzsch station it is a 1km walk. Alternatively, take bus B (Auto Webel) from Delitzsch station to Delitzsch, Markt.
