Located in the heart of Saxony's largest fruit-growing region is the Obstland Cycle Route, which winds its way through a landscape rich in cultural history. A total of 58 kilometers, it connects the towns of Mügeln, Leisnig, and Dürrweitzschen, where the long tradition of fruit-growing can be experienced in various ways. While the Mügeln area focuses on the history of the Obstland region, Leisnig explores the life and work of the monks at that time, and Dürrweitzschen offers insights into current production processes. The Obstland Cycle Route is also made up of three The route is made up of different thematic sub-routes and can be cycled via the individual smaller stages or the outer large circular route.

Directions

The bike tour begins at Leisnig train station and initially leads past the hydroelectric power plant and the impressive Mildenstein Castle towards Tragnitz. In Altleisnig, you cross the bridge to Wiesenthal before turning left at the entrance to Polditz and following the path to Böhlen.

You cycle through the center of Böhlen past the Schwemmteich pond and leave the village behind. The route continues to Leipnitz, from where you head northeast via Papsdorf, Dürreweitzschen, Zschoppach, and Ablaß to Querbitzsch.

Via Börtewitz, you reach the geotop at Silbersee and then pass the Frieden opencast mine at the clay pit before heading to Kemmlitz. At the end of the village, turn left, follow the country road briefly, and after a few hundred meters, keep right to pass Wachberg and reach Glossen.

Via Mügelner Landstraße, you finally reach Nebitzschen train station and then the small town of Mügeln. Past St. Mary's Church, the route takes you through the town center before leaving the town to the south. The Gauditzer Weg takes you to Lichteneichen and then on to Sornzig.

From here, you'll cycle via Gallschütz, Naunhof, and Altenhof to the famous Buch Monastery, where you can take a short break. After crossing the Freiberger Mulde, you'll finally cycle via Paudritzsch back to Leisnig, where the tour concludes.

The tour can be cycled in both directions.

Equipment

Bicycle helmet, rain and sun protection, provisions and water, bicycle lights in the dark. 

There are many opportunities for a short break along the route. Picnic blanket always convenient.

The altitude can surprise you occasionally, so you can also enjoy the E-Bikes be used.
