The lives and work of the monks during that time are primarily explored on section III of the route. Located directly on the Mulde River, Buch Monastery attracts visitors with regular events such as regional farmers' markets and guided tours focusing on the monastery's history. The town of Leisnig enchants visitors with its over 1.000-year-old Mildenstein Castle and a quirky attraction – a boot museum featuring the world's largest riding boot.

The fruit-growing tradition in this country goes back to the 12th century, when nuns and monks of the Cistercian order planted monastery gardens for their own needs and cultivated the first fruit trees and bushes, vegetables and medicinal plants. You can still trace this history today in the Buch monastery near Leisnig.

Founded in 1997, the Friends of Buch Monastery Association breathed new life into the old monastery walls after a long period of decay and offers historical tours where visitors can learn more about the monks' lives and work, both spiritual and culinary. The regional farmers' market, held on the second Saturday of each month from March to December, is also popular. The town of Leisnig enchants visitors with the charm of its medieval-style old town. Mildenstein Castle and the Boot Museum in Döbeln, home to the world's largest riding boot, are also well worth a visit.

Directions

The circular tour starts near Klosterbuch train station, where you follow the K7515 west along the Mulde Cycle Path to join the Obstland Cycle Route. At the end of the road, turn left, cross the railway tracks, and continue along the road to Klosterbuch. Passing the monastery, turn left a little later and cross the Mulde bridge. Continue on the road to Leisnig. There, the route runs alongside the train station, past the hydroelectric power plant, and the imposing Mildenstein Castle. At the edge of Leisnig, the impressive Red Porphyry Wall is worth a look before continuing towards Tragnitz. From here, the circular tour continues to Altleisnig, where you cross the Mulde again and reach Polditz. Via the villages of Kalthausen, Doberschwitz, and Sitten, you finally reach Kroptewitz. From there, the route continues via Kleinpelsen to Strocken. From Strocken, the route leads via Mühlenberg to Gallschütz and on via Naunhof to Altenhof.
