From Frankenberg/Sa., the approximately 45-kilometer-long section of the Zschopautal Cycle Path leads along the Zschopau River to Technitz.

The Zschopautal cycle path takes you past the Kriebstein dam through one of the most beautiful natural areas in the Leipzig region. There are many opportunities to rest and explore along the way. Due to some very challenging sections of the route, the Zschopautal cycle path is particularly recommended for experienced cyclists.

Directions

The tour begins at the train station in Frankenberg and initially heads northwest along the Auenweg to Niederlichtenau. At the entrance to Niederlichtenau, we turn right onto Merzdofer Straße and follow the cycle path to Merzdorf. The route continues via Biensdorf, Krumbach, and Neusorge to Mittweida.

Behind the Mittweida New Cemetery, the route turns right onto Dreiwerdener Weg, which runs around the town center. Shortly afterward, we follow the course of the Zschopau River for a section and then cross over to the opposite bank. Via Ringethal and Falkenhain, we reach Kriebethal. Here, the dam and the imposing Kriebstein Castle invite us to stop for a break.

From Kriebethal, we cross the Zschopau River again and follow the river through Unterrauschental to Waldheim. There, a detour to the St. Nicolai Church and the Kellerberge Mountains is worthwhile. The route continues via Diedenhain to Limmritz, then to Masten, before finally reaching our destination in Technitz.
