The Delitzsch-Südwest opencast mine, which was closed in 1993, has now become a unique natural landscape after being flooded from the Neue Luppe. The post-mining landscape is now the habitat of numerous sensitive bird species. The wonderful view to the north of the lake far over the water accompanies you. With a little luck, you can spot some of the 179 bird species registered to date, such as bluethroats, red-necked wagtails and sea eagles.
The area of Lake Werbelin is well developed for visitors. There are four large public car parks on the edge. From there, several paths invite you to cycle, hike, skate, etc. You can linger at various viewpoints and rest areas. Here you can unwind. Become one with nature and immerse yourself in this landscape of rare beauty.

The Werbeliner See nature reserve is a lovely destination. Here you can relax, unwind and make some great nature observations. !BUT BE CAREFUL - THE LAKE IS NOT A SWIMMING LAKE! To protect the biodiversity that has developed here, leaving the paths and therefore swimming is not permitted in the 1500 hectare protected area. The nearby Schladitzer See is a good alternative for anyone looking for a place for water-based leisure activities. The area is one of the largest and most important nature reserves in Saxony.
