Thanks to the canoe park lock, which compensates for a height difference of four meters, water hikers can explore the first network of lakes in Leipzig's New Lake District. Water course 5 is accessible by canoe or stand-up paddleboard.
Water hikers are rewarded with impressive views of the Mining Technology Park, the floating cultural island VINETA, and the whitewater facility of the Markleeberg Canoe Park. Those who don't want to get active themselves can enjoy these views from the passenger boat.
Due to current construction work, the Störmthal Canal and the canoe park lock are closed. There is no waterway connection between Lake Markleeberg and Lake Störmthal, so boats must be portaged.
