In the newly created city park on the south bank of Lake Zwenkau, locals and visitors have the opportunity to travel back in time. In addition to petrified wood and boulders that were discovered at the site where the largest lake in southern Leipzig's New Lake District is currently being created, four educational panels provide information about the geological history of the former mining region. Locals and visitors learn interesting facts about archaeology, tertiary forests, marine fossils and the Ice Age using graphics and texts. A visit that is often astonishing is well worth it. Or did you know that manatees and basking sharks once inhabited the Zwenkau region?
