The circular trail begins at the Hohburg Geoportal at the Stoneworkers' House Museum. It tells the story of stone mining around the town of Hohburg.
From the geoportal, the route leads along the north side of the small mountain to Hohburg's two kaolin lakes. Kaolin was mined here until 1965. From here, the route ascends to the summit of the Kleiner Berg. The Hohburg quartz porphyry rocks on the Kleiner Berg are classified as a National Geosite and are of great geological and scientific-historical importance. The glacial erosion marks on the "Morlot Cuts," barely visible today, created ice sheets up to 500 meters thick as they pushed over the rocks. The wind cuts on the "Naumann-Heim Rock" bear impact marks and grooves, which dust-laden, steady winds transported across the glacial foreland during the Weichselian glaciation. The wind and glacial cuts on the Kleiner Berg in Hohburg served as evidence for the theory of European inland glaciation as early as 1844.

Directions
The Kleiner Berg Hohburg georoute starts at the car park of the Museum Steinarbeiterhaus geoportal. Alternatively, there is a car park in the street “Am Kleiner Berg” and a car park in the street “Am Lossatal” (next to Hohburg Mineralfutter GmbH). There is a bicycle rest area opposite the ice cream parlor.
The starting point for the Kleiner Berg Georoute is the Hohburg Geoportal – the Stoneworkers' House Museum. Follow Kirchgasse down, past the church. At the junction with An der Linde street, turn left and after a few steps you will pass a small village square with an information board and town map. An der Linde street leads triangularly into Jahnstraße; turn right here and follow Jahnstraße over the Lossatal stream. A few meters after the bridge, turn right onto Am Lossatal street. On the left, immediately after the intersection, a footpath leads to the Am Kleiner Berg parking lot. The necessary right turn to the sports field is marked by the Porphyrland Geopark information board on the special geological situation of the Kleiner Berg. Take the hiking trail that begins in front of the sports field building; the building remains on your left. The Nordweg trail runs along the foot of the Kleiner Berg, parallel to Am Lossatal street. You'll enjoy a beautiful view of the village of Hohburg all the way to Kaolinsee. At Kaolinsee, the hiking trail meets the lakeside trail. Follow this trail to the left until you reach the bridge over Kaolinsee. Before the bridge, stay on the left-hand path leading to Kleiner Berg. At the junction with the main path, which runs across the lake, you'll see an ascending path to Kleiner Berg on the opposite side, half-right. This path leads you to the Wind and Glacial Polished Geological Site on the Kleiner Berg plateau. At the end of the plateau, the path descends steeply to the left. Stay on the main path, which has benches, and ignore the paths leading to the road on the right. The main path continues straight ahead toward the sports field. A narrow path along the fence leads back to the utility building on Jahnstraße. The way back to the Steinarbeiterhaus Museum is identical to the outward route: across the Kleiner Berg car park, turn right into Am Lossatal street, at the intersection turn left into Jahnstraße, cross the Lossa, turn left into An der Linde street and turn right into Kirchgasse to the Steinarbeiterhaus.

safety instructions
The descent from the rocky summit of the Kleiner Berg is very steep for about 100 meters due to the wind-blown erosion. Especially after the leaves have fallen in autumn, there is an acute danger of slipping in wet and icy conditions. Therefore, the path should be avoided at all costs in these weather conditions.
The trail is unsuitable for people with limited mobility, wheelchair users, and those with strollers due to the nature of the trail, the steep descent/ascent, and the narrow paths.
