The start and end point of the mining trail is the Geoportal Steinarbeiterhaus Hohburg Museum, which serves as an information center for the Geopark Porphyrland. It tells the story of raw material extraction around the town of Hohburg and already provides diverse information about the individual points of interest of the mining trail before the tour.
After visiting the Steinarbeiterhaus, the route’s first stop is the Löbenberg quarry. Here, the Hohburg quartz porphyry was extracted until 1958. The next point of interest is the Zinkenberg quarry, where stone is still extracted today. Information boards along the route and the descriptions of the points of interest provide details about the formation of quartz porphyry rock and the history of the quarries.

Directions
The mining trail starts at the parking lot of the Geoportal Steinarbeiterhaus Museum. Follow the signs "circular route" into the forest path and stay on the forest path at the Kirschberg fork until you reach the street An der Rodelbahn. From here, the "mining trail" signage begins. The path branches off from the ascent to Löbenberg and winds with a gentle incline to the ski meadow. At the end of the ski meadow, the path turns right and after about 100 m follows the ascent to Löbenberg on the right. Please observe the closures at the edge of the quarry on site!
From Löbenberg, the path leads straight to Zinkenberg. At the fork to Kleinzschepa, take the ascent to the right towards Zinkenberg and walk along the edge of the quarry to the right. Shortly after the shelter at Zinkenberg, the paths fork several times. Stay on the path marked "mining trail." Only when the signs "circular route" and Kirschberg appear do you follow these signs to return to the Geoportal Steinarbeiterhaus Museum at the end of your circular hike.
