Between Leipzig and Markranstädt, Lake Kulkwitz was opened up as a local recreation area in the 1970s after renaturation measures.

The diverse vegetation around its shores is fascinating. The forest on the Hochkippe in the south is particularly inviting for walks. The water quality itself is excellent, which is why the lake is considered one of the most important diving waters in central Germany. Various beaches around the 150 hectare lake invite you to relax.

Directions

The lake circular trail begins in the north-west of Kulkwitz Lake. It leads down the west side to the south, through the "Park am See" and past the small fun park. Once you reach the south, you pass the lido and on the east side the trail continues north again. Past the octopus playground and the former mini golf course, you reach the north via Seestrasse. On the left side you will now find the campsite and the beautiful beach. In the north the route only runs along the waterski and wakeboard facility until you reach the starting point again.
