The “Lutherweg in Saxony” is a spiritual circular hiking trail that leads through the scenic region.

The noticeable effects and impulses of the Reformation are still visible and alive today. In 1519, the Leipzig Disputation took place at the Pleißenburg, which ensured the spread of Lutheran ideas. In Torgau, Eilenburg and Leipzig, the citizens opened up to the Reformation views very early on. In Leisnig, Luther developed the Leisnig Caste Order in 1523, the oldest Protestant social document in the world. Other stations on the Luther Trail in Saxony are closely linked to the strong women of the Reformation. Katharina von Bora, Luther's later wife, lived in the Nimbschen monastery near Grimma. Duchess Elisabeth of Saxony worked in the towns of Rochlitz and Kriebstein and, through her energetic actions, made it possible to introduce the Reformation in her territory as early as 1537. The Luther Trail invites you to pause and calm down, to find space for reflection and time for prayer in the footsteps of Martin Luther and his companions.

Directions

The Luther Trail Saxony is connected to the network of trails in Saxony-Anhalt and the Luther Trail in Thuringia. It stretches over around 550 km of the beautiful, diverse landscape of the Leipzig region, past churches, palaces, castles and monasteries, extensive heathlands, forests and rivers, right in the motherland of the Reformation. It is signposted with a green "L" on a white background, the logo of the Luther Trail, which is shown in both directions. It is therefore possible to start a tour through the varied landscape of the Leipzig region to the sites of the Reformation at any location.
