The confluence of the Freiberger and Zwickauer Mulde near Sermuth is a fantastic starting point to start the tour along the Vereinigte Mulde. On a road with little traffic, we first head north to Kössern. Here we can take a short break at the manor or follow the main road towards Großbothen. After crossing the Mulde for the first time, we follow the road to Kleinbothen, in the village we turn left and then right again shortly afterwards. We pass the outdoor pool on the left and immediately right again onto the gravel path. Now we follow the forest path very close to the Mulde, past the Schaddelmühle geoportal and the ferry dock near Höfgen, to Nimbschen Monastery. We continue to follow the asphalt path until we cross the main road and then continue along the path to the entrance to Grimma. We change sides of the road and immediately drive down the (steep!) hill on the right-hand side, also always straight ahead, past the blue Grimma suspension bridge, directly into the historic town center. We now keep to the right and cross the expansive, historically restored Pöppelmann Bridge in the town center. Immediately behind the bridge we keep left again on the Mulde and follow the asphalted path on the former railway line. On the next 16 almost dead straight kilometers we cross the Golzern paper factory, drive past the mighty concrete pillars of the A14 motorway and follow the route via Neichen and Nerchau through a fantastic Mulde floodplain landscape. In Dehnitz we keep to the right at the entrance to the town and immediately turn left again. We can either drive straight towards the town of Wurzen or visit the Wachtelturm on the right, from which we can let our gaze wander far into the wonderful Mulde landscape.
