At Lake Grabschütz, nature is reclaiming the former open-cast mining area in its own way. This has created a diverse landscape that provides habitat for numerous protected animal and plant species and is part of the European Special Protection Area (SPA). The core zone is inaccessible to avoid disturbance, but the 7-km circular trail, accessible via three main entrances, offers ample opportunities for observation and enjoyment along its length. Telescopes are also available at several points. In addition, the nature trail provides information at 18 stations about landscape history, geology, ecology, and flora and fauna. The engagingly designed trail is suitable for children and adults, as well as individual hikers and groups.
