Directions

The route of the Heath Beaver Tour, which is marked with a beaver throughout, begins at the Bad Düben spa park on Gustav-Adolf-Strasse. It first leads past the Moor Adventure Garden, Obermühlteich and the restored post mill. Follow the footpath that runs parallel to the B2. At the first houses in Hammermühle, turn left, walk to the bank of the Hammerbach, turn right and walk upstream. With a little luck, you can discover the work of the beavers in the form of beaver dams or gnawed tree trunks. After a while, the Hammerbach curves to the left and you keep to the right. You pass through the residential area of Hammermühle, cross the B2 and walk to the next intersection in the forest. There you turn left and walk straight on and then diagonally right to Tornau, where the Stelenweg and the Holzskulpturenweg can be admired. On Söllichauer Strasse you head towards the town centre. However, after the first houses, turn right and soon leave Tornau behind you. The path now leads through the Hammerbach valley past inviting seating areas and the Döbeltsmühle to Eisenhammer. There is a charcoal kiln there that still practices and demonstrates the old craft of charcoal production. Not far from there is the beaver observation tower. The old forest paths Dachszange, Reichsapfelweg and Reinharzer Weg now lead you through the middle of the Dübener Heide directly to the Reinharz moated castle, which is already visible from the forest. In addition to the moated castle with its park, the church, the Sophienquelle and the Brauhausteich are also worth a visit. After an extensive walk, you go back into the forest, where you pass the Heideteich with its shelter. During a rest you can see numerous forest animals here. The path then leads straight to a wide forest path, which you cross. On the other side you continue the route on the Tafelweg. After a while you will pass the gypsy grave, walk a few meters along the road to the left and then turn right towards the Kaiser Wilhelm Tower and pass the maiden grave on the way there. The view from the tower stretches far over the Düben Heath. Then you go through the forest by the Vitriolteich and past the Fulling Mill along the Moor Adventure Trail in the direction of Bad Schmiedeberg. You walk through the spa park and finally reach the Art Nouveau spa house and thus your destination. You can end the hike comfortably on the banks of the Swan Pond with its fountain.
