Kunstkraftwerk – Claude Monet: Master of Colors and Lights

Kunstkraftwerk Leipzig presents Claude Monet: Master of Colours and Lights, a multi-sensory exhibition about the namesake of Impressionism in painting. His art is interpreted in a playfully creative way in immersive multimedia shows, installations and rooms on the old factory site. Through the use of digital technologies such as 360-degree projections, the old master's play with light and colour has a modern and boldly digital effect.

Leipzig Book Fair

The Leipzig Book Fair and the largest European reading festival "Leipzig reads" are the spring event for the book and media industry. Fans of comics, manga & co. can visit the Manga Comic Convention at the same time. The Leipzig Antiquarian Book Fair also takes place at the same time. At the last event, more than 2,000 exhibitors from over 40 countries presented their new products for the spring, attracting 274,000 visitors to the exhibition centre and throughout the city.

St. John Passion: 300th Anniversary of the First Performance

Music lovers can experience a performance with the Thomanerchor, soloists and members of the Gewandhaus Orchestra on 28 March in the Thomaskirche and on 29 March in the Nikolaikirche to mark the 300th anniversary of the premiere.

a cappella – International Festival for Vocal Music

Since 1997, the a capella festival has transformed the city into a musical hub for the vocal music scene. For over a week, concerts are given by vocal groups from all corners of the a cappella world. Everything that is possible using just the human voice will be on stage at 'a cappella', ranging from famous groups and insider tips to young talent. The festival is led by the Leipzig vocal group amarcord and is fully in tune with its music: lively, exciting, varied and straight from the heart.

Museum Night in Leipzig and Halle

The Museum Night is a cult classic. The concept of a joint museum night, during which the museum landscape of the cities of Halle and Leipzig is opened one night a year and made more accessible with new, special offers, has paid off. Meanwhile, the joint Museum Night has developed independently of city and state borders into a major cultural event in both cities, with an audience of more than 20,000 visitors who greatly look forward to it.

Leipzig Wine Festival

Once again, visitors are invited to taste wines and enjoy the occasion in Leipzig's market square at the 2024 edition of the annual wine festival. Here, vinters from various wine-growing areas of Germany, but also Austria, Hungary and Italy offer their wines and sparkling wines. There will be a stage with music and entertainment as well as culinary delights.

Wave Gothic Festival

Since 1992, the Wave Gothic Festival (WGT) has been a major attraction for thousands of members of the Gothic scene from all over the world. On the four days of the festival, visitors can enjoy concerts as well as a varied programme of parties, shows, exhibitions and medieval markets. A highlight of the festival is the Victorian picnic in Clara Zetkin Park.

Leipzig City Festival

The region's most popular open-air event attracts over 250,000 visitors every year. Around 150 hours of live entertainment on several stages, regional specialities, musical entertainment, a colourful adventure land for the youngest Leipzig fans and much more awaits visitors in the city centre.

European Football Championship 2024

Germany will be hosting the UEFA European Football Championship for the second time in 2024 after it previously took place here in 1988. Games will be played in Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart. Nine of the ten stadiums hosting the event were also used for the FIFA World Cup in 2006. The International Broadcast Centre (IBC) will be home to all the media partners working there. A total of three preliminary round matches and one round of 16 match will be played on 18,21 and 24 June, as well as on 2 July at Red Bull Arena Leipzig.

Leipzig tanzt 24! The Leipzig Ballet invites you to come and enjoy all aspects of dance as an art form in a varied and exciting programme. Alongside performances by high-profile guests including the Ballet de l’Opéra de Paris and the Akram Khan Company, the Leipzig Ballet will be presenting a new creation by Ballet Director and Head Choreographer Mario Schröder. MDR Music Summer 2024

The MDR Musiksommer 2024 presents classical music, jazz and crossover in Central Germany. The festival kicks off on 2 August at the Europa-Rosarium in Sangerhausen with performances by the MDR Symphony Orchestra and others.

Highfield Festival

The indie rock festival at Störmthal Lake is back for another year. Around 35,000 festival fans will be able to rock out to bands ranging from pop to punk, rock to rap. Bands and artists confirmed for this year include Rise Against, Peter Fox, Cro and Provinz.

211th anniversary of the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig

Every year in October, military history societies from all over Europe come to Leipzig and Markkleeberg to commemorate the Battle of the Nations together. The organisers are expecting around 2000 participants dressed in historical uniforms who will show bivouacs, a battle display and civilian scenes, among other things. This year, the event will celebrate its 211th anniversary.

Euro Scene is a festival of European dance and theatre.

34th euro-scene

The festival presents around 12 dance and theatre pieces from and about Europe and its global interdependencies. The programme focuses on contemporary theatre and innovative dance as well as the latest performative forms of presentation, which are intended to challenge both in terms of content and form. The main focus is on in-house and co-productions as well as German premieres and world premieres.

Leipzig Christmas Market

The tradition of the Leipzig Christmas Market dates back to 1458. Embedded in the fascinating historical backdrop of the city centre and with its 250 stands, it is one of the largest and most beautiful Christmas markets in Germany. Culturally, the Christmas Market is framed by festive concerts by the St. Thomas Choir, organ music in the churches and a variety of other programmes.
