Dommitzsch Local History Museum

Short facts

The town history of Dommitzsch is presented by means reconstructed exhibits, photos & illustrative panels.

The local history museum of the city of Dommitzsch was rebuilt in continuation of the tradition of the first museum from the year 1929 in the house of the former Mohrenapotheke (pharmacy) in the Torgauer Straße between 1980 and 1985. In the years 1997 to 1999, an extensive revision and redesign of the contents of the exhibitions took place. The house itself, probably built in 1716 in the half-timbered style, is considered one of the oldest in the city of Dommitzsch, and is a listed as a protected monument. Today it is not only a museum, but also a meeting and working place for the "Dommitzscher Geschichtsverein", which is responsible for the content of the museum. At present, the city's history is illustrated in 13 rooms with a total of 300 m² of exhibition space using historical and reconstructed exhibits, photos, graphics and visual information boards which illustrate the site-specific, social, economic and ecological structure and development of the city of Dommitzsch. The basis for this were selected documents and archive material, as well as chronicles of the city's history.
