Market square

Short facts

Together with the Old Town Hall, the Market Square is the centre of Leipzig and is home to numerous events and markets.

For Leipzig residents and tourists, the market place serves as a central meeting point in the city centre. The S-Bahn stops here, connecting you to city landmarks ( Monument to the Battle of the Nations, Central Station, Trade Fair Centre) and the greater Leipzig region. The city centre can also be easily reached on foot from the market, with the surrounding streets leading past numerous attractions such as the St. Nicholas and St. Thomas churches, the "University Giant" or the notable arcades and courtyards. The Old Town Hall with the Museum of City History is also located directly on the market square. Throughout the year, the location also serves as a venue for various events and markets: The market days in September are just one of many more examples. The weekly market also offers fresh regional products twice a week. A multitude of shopping centres and shopping opportunities around the market reinforce its function as the hub of the city.
