The poet, lyricist, cabaret artist, draughtsman and painter Joachim Ringelnatz was born in the building on 7 August 1883 as Hans Gustav Bötticher.
The memorial plaque was placed on the birth house in 1945 in the presence of his sister Ottilie and commemorates the artist who died prematurely. From 1983 to 1998, this was the only exhibition in Germany that provided an insight into the life and work of the poet, cabaret artist and painter and his father, Georg Bötticher, the model draftsman, on the basis of valuable unique works. Today you can visit the museum in Domgasse.
The Joachim-Ringelnatz-Verein e.V. took over the opening and operation of the building in 2016 under an operating agreement, in which exhibitions, events and guided tours have been held regularly ever since. In return, the city will renovate the building and take over the operating costs. The aim is the gradual, long-term development of Ringelnatz's birthplace into a literary memorial, meeting place and research centre for an important German literary legacy and a great Saxon artist.
