E.T.A. Hoffmann is not only considered the father of Romanticism and a great admirer of Mozart - he also spent several months in Leipzig and is one of the most important German writers of the Romantic period, working as a lawyer, composer and bandmaster as well. He arrived in the city of music in 1813, the day after Richard Wagner was born, and subsequently wrote a large part of his "Fantasy pieces in Callot’s manner".
The "Con Spirito" chamber music festival brings the pieces of this musical talent, together with his furious stories and figures, to the stage. Whether Schumann's Fairy Tale Pictures, Night Pieces or Kreisleriana - all bear the "fantastic" of the poet. Among the music festival's venues are Leipzig's renowned institutions, including the Bach Museum and St Thomas’ Church, the Gewandhaus Concert Hall, the Mendelssohn and Schumann House, the Old St Nicolas’ School and Church, the Grieg Memorial Site as well as the Academy of Music and Theatre (HTM). All these sites are linked not only by the Chamber Music Festival, but also by the Leipzig Music Trail. The series of events will kick off with an overture at the Leipzig Gewandhaus Concert Hall on 10 September 2022 at 6 pm. Among the artists are well-known names of the chamber music scene, such as Noémi Bialobroda, Peter Bruhns, Antje Weithaas or Daniel Ottensammer.
