St. Nikolai Church in Geithain

Over the centuries, it was extended and rebuilt several times, including the addition of a Gothic choir in the 14th century and the construction of a large late Gothic hall church from 1504. In the 16th century, the interior was given a richly painted ceiling instead of a vault, and important furnishings such as the pulpit and altar were also added. With the Reformation, the first Protestant service was celebrated in 1539, giving the church its current denominational character. Subsequent changes mainly concerned furnishings and renovations, for example in 1902, which essentially gave the church its current appearance. Today, the Nikolaikirche is an important historical building that characterizes the town of Geithain with its striking towers.
