Waterways in Leipzig & the region

Canoe trips through Water City Leipzig, which can look back on more than 150 years of water tourism tradition, are great fun. Thanks to a lock, it is even possible to paddle all the way to Lake Cospuden. The tourist water network makes this possible, as it connects rivers and streams with the varied lake landscape of the surrounding region, the Leipzig New Lakeland. The first lake network in Leipzig New Lakeland - Lake Markkleeberg and Lake Störmthal - is also wonderful to explore on a paddling tour .

Inflatable boat trips on the Mulde near Rochlitz, Grimma and Eilenburg are ideal for families. Magnificent castles and palaces, idyllic floodplain landscapes and impressive rocky gorges line the banks of the Mulde. A paddling tour on the Elbe from Belgern via Torgau to Dommitzsch also guarantees unforgettable impressions of nature.

Simply hire a boat from one of the many rental stations in the region or bring your own canoe, and off you go.

Nearly 90 kilometers of the United Mulde river flow right through the Leipzig region, past beautiful idyllic floodplain landscapes, through villages and historically significant towns such as Grimma, Wurzen, Eilenburg and Bad Düben. A detour to the 10-kilometer-long Eilenburg Millrace, a centuries-old artificial canal, is highly recommended.

Rocky gorges, forests, idyllic floodplain landscapes and magnificent castles that tower over Rochlitz and Colditz  line the Zwickauer Mulde. 

Monasteries, castles and the impressive Mildenstein Castle also define the river section of the Freiberger Mulde between Klosterbuch, Leisnig and Grimma. Small rapids guarantee paddling fun for the whole family.
