The Dahlen Heath and the Wermsdorf Forest are two of Saxony's most impressive protected landscapes. Located in the north-western part of the Free State, between the Elbe and Mulde rivers, extensive forests, broad, gently rolling to flat countryside, as well as numerous ponds and lakes with diverse flora and fauna are waiting to be explored. The deciduous and coniferous forests, expansive meadows and fertile fields offer cyclists and hikers, water sports enthusiasts as well as riders and horse-drawn carriage fans excellent opportunities for rest and relaxation.

Thanks to the large populations of wild boar, fallow deer and red deer, both the Dahlen Heath and the Wermsdorf Forest were already popular hunting grounds at the beginning of the 16th century. Even Augustus the Strong and the Saxon court knew how to appreciate this. Hunters and visitors are still delighted today when the "Halali" of the hunting horns sounds each autumn for the St Hubert's Hunt. Game meat is one of the culinary specialities of this travel region, alongside local fish.

From there, you can already see the Monument to the Battle of the Nations and South Cemetery, which was designed in the English style and is also used as a park.
