As early as 1766, a theatre was built on what is now Richard-Wagner-Platz. the first city theater in Germany At its opening, none other than Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who was studying in Leipzig at the time, was a guest. One of the Highlights of Leipzig's Theater History is also the premiere of "Joan of Arc"The play by Friedrich Schiller was first performed in 1801 in the then city theater Comödienhaus on the Rannische Bastei.

Leipzig Laughter Fair

An additional highlight for all cabaret fans is the international Leipzig Laughter FairGermany's largest cabaret and variety art festivalThe Laughter Fair takes place every year in autumn. The eleven-day European Humor and Satire Festival With over 100 events, cabaret, comedy, clowning, music and fun at its finest, young and old are guaranteed to have sore muscles. 

International artists will strain every funny bone and provide the best entertainment with excellent humor and biting satire. Particularly outstanding artists will be awarded the “Leipziger Löwenzahn” festival prize. The festival offers a mix of political satire, cabaret, musick and sophisticated comedy. If you can't laugh here, you really have nothing to laugh about.
