Saxon Wind Philharmonic

Cultural orchestra with a purely symphonic wind ensemble

It is a magical moment when air flows through 30 woodwind and brass instruments and a rich, brilliant sound unfolds. You can experience this with the Saxon Wind Philharmonic with its special symphonic wind ensemble, which is unique in the German orchestra landscape. From classical music, jazz or film music to original compositions, the Saxon Wind Philharmonic delights its audience with fresh programmes. The various chamber music ensembles complement the orchestra’s diversity. Since 2021, the Austrian-born Peter Sommerer has been the chief conductor and artistic director of the Saxon Wind Philharmonic and, with his refreshing manner, has been setting new accents in the orchestra’s musical work.

MISKUS

Diverse cultural festival in Saxony

The Association for the Promotion of the Central Saxon Cultural Summer – known as MISKUS – has been presenting the most diverse festival in Saxony every summer since 1994. It brings more than 40 cultural events to the most beautiful places in the Leipzig region and uses the unique atmosphere of historic buildings, castles and palaces, monasteries and churches, ruins, parks, as well as the rural surroundings for original programs and unusual dramaturgy. The festival motto “ALWAYS NEW AGAIN” is regarded as the highest guiding principle. By also addressing historically significant events, history becomes tangible in a wide variety of ways. This includes not only nearly authentic costumes made in the in-house tailor shop, but also the organisation of historically inspired markets from various eras. As part of the festival, there are many opportunities for active participation – whether on or off the stage.
