Organ music and organ craftsmanship in Germany has been declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. In Saxony alone, there are approximately 2,500 organs, including more than 150 historical instruments. The artisanal and musical diversity of the organs in the Leipzig region delights numerous music enthusiasts from Germany and abroad every year. Famous organ builders, such as Silbermann, Hildebrandt, Kreutzbach, and Ladegast, left behind wonderful treasures that even Johann Sebastian Bach "recognized and praised as excellent and enduring." Many of these instruments have undergone extensive restorations and reconstructions in recent decades. In this way, the sound worlds of four centuries and thus a unique organ heritage have been preserved.
