Water sports in Leipzig and the region

Since 1 April, the Connewitz and Cospuden locks have once again been available for water touring. In April, the locks are operational from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; from May to September from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and in October from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. During operating hours, employees of the Leipzig/Engelsdorf Municipal Enterprise provide information and support to lock users directly on site.

Conditions of issue:
The fishing permits (day, weekly, or annual permits) are always valid for one body of water only. Only weekly and annual permits may be sold for association contract waters. Day permits may not be issued for leased fishing waters.

Issuing points:

Day permits (one body of water/one calendar day, 00:00 to 24:00): €12.00

Weekly permit (one body of water/seven consecutive calendar days, 00:00 to 24:00): €30.00

Annual permits (one body of water/one calendar year, 1 January to 31 December): €100.00

In Saxony, you may only fish if you hold a valid fishing licence and have a permit that is valid for the body of water you wish to fish in. The specified minimum sizes and catch limits are regulated uniformly for the whole of Saxony in the water regulations of the Saxon Anglers’ Association and are also printed on the permit.

Children and young people in Saxony can obtain a youth fishing licence once they have reached the age of 9. However, this only allows them to fish when accompanied by an adult fishing licence holder, unless the young person has been a member of an angling club for at least one year. Holders of a youth fishing licence also need a valid permit.

People whose main place of residence is outside the area of application of the Basic Law can be issued a guest fishing licence without taking a fishing exam. This is intended to enable foreign holidaymakers to fish.
