UT Connewitz
The charm of the past still prevails in one of the oldest movie theaters in the country. The UT Connewitz is a venue with a special Leipzig charm. Located in the south of the city, the UT blends in with the rough and alternative style of the Connewitz district. It no longer only hosts film screenings, but above all concerts, readings, festivals and other events.
The UT is popular and in demand among scene goers, culture lovers and music fans, yet it has not bowed to the urge to progress, but has deliberately preserved the backdrop of the 100-year-old film palace. After the UT experienced its heyday in the GDR as a cinema and concert venue for the East German punk scene, the curtains closed for the time being after reunification. In 2001, a group of motivated culture enthusiasts set about breathing new life into the UT.
