The 2026 Festival of Lights will wind its way through downtown Leipzig as a path of light. Between St. Nicholas Church and St. Matthew’s Churchyard, light installations, performances, and images from 1989 will connect the past with the present. International artists, local project partners, and Leipzig schoolchildren will work together to create a European perspective. The candle pedestal shaped like the number 89 at St. Thomas Church, on the corner of Klostergasse, offers a quiet moment of remembrance as well as an opportunity for exchange. This creates a shared space for remembrance and reflection.

The light trail can be walked in either direction; there is no set order. You can choose any starting point. Orange streetlights help guide the way on the evening of the Festival of Lights.
