Friedrich August Tower on Rochlitz Hill

Visible from afar, built on the summit of Rochlitz Hill, the 27-metre-high observation tower is one of the landmarks of the town of Rochlitz. Built entirely from local red  porphyry tuff, it is an ambassador for the volcanic rock of the mountain, which was formed 275 million years ago and is unique worldwide in its color, shape and texture. To commemorate King Friedrich August II († 1854), who visited the mountain forest several times during his lifetime, a committee decided to erect a monument to him on Rochlitz Mountain in 1855. Construction took four years. With the construction of the observation tower and the "Waldschlösschen" mountain café, tourism continued to increase significantly. With good visibility, the tower offers a comprehensive panoramic view of the ridge of the Ore Mountains as far as the Leipzig Monument to the Battle of the Nations or the Collmberg near Oschatz.

There are 3 designated parking spaces 700 meters to approx. 1 km from the destination.
