From there, the Russian Tsar and the Prussian King watched the battle against Napoleon. The Prussians and Russians retreated towards evening, leaving behind 35,000 casualties in just 7 hours.
After the battle, Emperor Napoleon spent the night in the house of the merchant Richter on the church square on May 3, 1813. Many wounded lay in the streets of Pegau, so that the town hall also served as a military hospital.
The Pegau chronicler Friederich August Fissel, who also recreated the Battle of Großgörschen with pen and ink based on eyewitness accounts, reported on the events. The painting hangs in the museum of the town of Pegau.
