Monastery meadows Döbeln

In recent years, the monastery meadows have developed into a popular leisure park in Döbeln. Walkers, runners, cyclists, skaters, nature lovers, families with children, sun-seekers, those looking for peace and quiet - they all find their place here without disturbing each other.

The wide south-west facing meadow on the Freiberger Mulde was cultivated as a garden by the nuns of the Döbeln Benedictine monastery in the Middle Ages. Later, military personnel from all political systems had their hands on the land for more than 100 years. After the Bundeswehr left in 1993, the town bought back the overgrown site with the aim of developing an area for nature-oriented leisure activities.

After the devastating flood in 2002, the 11-hectare site was redesigned. Numerous shrubs, trees and perennials were planted, benches installed and new paths laid out, of which around 1.5 kilometers are paved. They are particularly popular with skaters. At the back, by the old shooting range, there is a climbing facility and a 330-metre-long, challenging mountain bike trail. 1.7 hectares of gravel lawn serve as a fairground. Circus guest performances or the traditional (VW) Beetle meeting take place here twice a year.
The Döbelner main cycle route, the Mulderadweg, also touches the site.
The children's playground with cable car, balance beam, suspension bridge, swings, crawling tunnel, rubber slide and much more is particularly popular.

The park can be reached via Heinrich-Heine-Straße or Friedrichstraße, among others. There are also plenty of parking spaces available.
