Museum of Printing Art Leipzig
As an authentic place of industrial culture, the Museum of Printing Arts displays around 100 functioning machines and presses for historical casting, typesetting and printing techniques. The combination of a production workshop and a museum makes it possible to experience 500 years of printing history.
As part of the Saxon Route of Industrial Heritage, the museum is one of the 51 most important sites of industrial heritage in Saxony. It preserves, maintains and communicates the artistic printing techniques of relief, gravure and planographic printing, which are listed in the German UNESCO Commission's nationwide list of intangible cultural heritage. Exhibitions and workshops are held on a regular basis.
The museum is located at Nonnenstraße 38 in the former industrial district of Plagwitz in a four-winged building with around 100 years of tradition as a printing workshop. Today, the façade of the building facing Nonnenstraße is one of the rare examples of Art Deco in Leipzig's cityscape.
