Rothöll - Fine Leather From The Sea
Annekatrin Döll produces durable, high-quality, sustainable bags and accessories made from fish leather in her Leipzig-based manufactory Rothöll. She was inspired by a trip to Iceland in 2009, where fish skin is traditionally tanned. This gave rise to the idea of producing exceptional leather goods from the seemingly worthless remains of the fishing industry, the skins (of non-endangered fish species). In her small studio in Plagwitz, the artisan has revived the now rare craft of fine leatherwork and thus produces "luxury for everyday life". The design is classically elegant, with a certain twist, but also with well thought-out functionality. Handbags, purses, smartphone cases, belts and bow ties in different colors are created - pieces of jewelry that focus on the beauty of the material. The fish leather is elastic, robust, durable and has a special feel: the touch is reminiscent of silk and paper. In the interests of sustainability, great importance is attached to using vegetable - and therefore more environmentally friendly - tanning during production. Annekatrin Döll manufactures to customer specifications and also offers a collection. The studio can be visited by appointment.
