St. Nicolai Waldheim town church

The history of the town church can be traced back to 1336. The old church stood on the market square until 1832, where a star can be seen in the pavement today. It was dedicated to St. Nicholas, the patron saint of merchants. The church fell victim to a town fire in 1684, but was rebuilt. During the great town fire of 1832, the church burned down again and was not rebuilt on the same site, but on the Kellerberg. The foundation stone was laid in 1839 and the church was consecrated in 1842. The construction of the church cost 51,264 thalers. The Saxon Ministry of Culture supported the construction and the state of Saxony announced a collection. There are three galleries inside the church. The interior design is dominated by the colors light blue, white and gold. The organ was built by Borna organ master Urban Kreutzbach.
